AJYCP protest for indigenous rights

Members of the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) staged a protest in Tinsukia demanding stronger safeguards for indigenous land and political rights. Demonstrators gathered in the town with placards and slogans calling for strict implementation of land protection laws and measures to prevent alleged encroachment. The organisation urged the state government to introduce policies ensuring constitutional protection for indigenous communities, particularly in Upper Assam districts.

AJYCP leaders stated that their movement aims to preserve the cultural identity, economic security, and traditional land ownership of indigenous people. They warned that failure to address these concerns could lead to intensified agitations in the future. Police maintained security during the demonstration, which remained largely peaceful, while officials acknowledged receiving a memorandum submitted by the protesters outlining their key demands.
